About Our Chapter

Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter currently has 67 members which includes 6 junior members.  Our members’ ages span from 23 to 93 as we celebrated the chapter’s 70th anniversary January 10, 2017.  We are a very vibrant chapter – dedicated to historic preservation, education, and patriotism.  We are  very proud of the accomplishments of our members.

Our members have logged in nearly 800 hours of volunteer work in the community the past 6 months in chapter and individual projects.

In 2017, our chapter received State Honor Roll – Gold Award, and the state newsletter won 1st place.  We received 3rd in DAR Schools Involvement and Honorable Mention in Conservation.  We also had the  Outstanding Volunteer Information Specialist and the State Reading Contest winner.

Four members received State American Heritage Committee Contest Awards:  1st place in oil painting, china painting, crochet, hand-quilted quilt, hand-quilted wall hanging, and basketry.  Three of those members received National American Heritage Committee Awards – 1st in hand-quilted quilt, 1st in china painting, 2nd in crochet, and 3rd in basketry.  First place winners were exhibited in Washington DC during Continental Congress July 2017.

We support Hindman Settlement School, Hardin County One-Room Schoolhouse Summit I restoration, Larue County Reads, and Indian Youth of America Summer Camp.
