Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter NSDAR members receive national awards

Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter Daugh­ters of the Ameri­can Revolution attended the State DAR summer workshop Aug. 12 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville. Work­shops were offered for regents, treasurers and registrars as well as general workshops for members.

Sue Kelly Ballard was awarded the Wo­men of the Arts Rec­og­nition Award in lit­erature and drama auth­orship for her book, “My Blessed, Wretched Life – Rebecca Boone’s Story” by the National American Heritage Committee.

The award is designed to recognize worthy women at the community level for outstanding achievements in the non-performance arts. The recipient is expected to have contributed to her artistic field in an outstanding manner beyond mastery of technique. Ballard was recognized on the Women in the Arts display at Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. in June. State Regent Leslie Miller presented Ballard with a certificate and pin.

National American Heritage Committee awards were presented to Nancy Raine, first-place fiber arts hand-quilted quilt and third place crafts basketry; Beverly Heath, first place arts and sculpture China painting; and Linda King, second place fiber arts crocheting. These ladies received certificates and blue ribbons from State Regent Leslie Miller.

First-place winners Raine’s quilt and Heath’s china painting were exhibited in Washington, D.C. during Continental Congress June 27-30 at DAR Headquarters.

All winners were honored at the Ameri­can Heritage Committee Awards Ceremony on June 26 in Washington, D.C. with a PowerPoint presentation featuring a photo of the artist and the art. Four of the seven American Heritage awards from Kentucky were from Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter. Items can be viewed at the Hardin County History Museum through August.

Joyce Miller received an award for outstanding contribution to Constitution Week promotion. The chapter received awards for Excellence in Constitution Week Leadership and Chapter Achievement Award Level 1.
