​​Kentucky Society DAR members host summer workshop

Kentucky Society Daughters of the American Revolution held a summer workshop Aug. 17 for Districts 1 and 2 at Prit­chard Community Center in Elizabethtown with more than 175 members attending.

Members attended training for chapter regents, treasurers and committee chairs as well as basic DAR applications and a networking session on promoting the NSDAR goals of historic preservation, education and patriotism. State Regent Carol Doak Rogow presented awards to chapters.

Thirteen members from Cap­tain Jacob Van Meter Chapter attended. The chapter won Chapter Achievement Award Level 1.

Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter won the following East Central Division awards, first place for Chapter Newsletter, first place for Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, Best Multi Chapter Event and third place Commemorative Event for the 200th Birthday of Hodgenville.

National awards won by Cap­tain Jacob Van Meter Chap­ter were second place 50th Anni­versary of the Vietnam War, Best Multi-Chapter Event and third place for Chapter Newsletter. Three national certificates were presented to the chapter for out­standing contribution to Con­stitution Week promotion.

National awards won by chap­ter members were Amanda Miller Prestia, Website of the Month October 2018 and Amanda Miller Prestia and Joyce Miller, second place American Heritage Contest in the machine quilting division.

Captain Jacob Van Meter Chap­ter members presented Joyce Miller with the State Regi­strar pin at the conclusion of the workshop.

Thanks to Beverly Heath for the “Rise and Shine for America” centerpieces and all chapter members who brought food and worked to make the event a success.
