Vietnam Veterans Are Honored

Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter NSDAR was honored to recognize 50 Vietnam War veterans on Friday, November 17 at the Brown Pusey House in Elizabethtown. Veterans and their guests were invited to participate in the DAR Rituals with music following by Lisa Greene and Brother Randy Mitchell. Kentucky State Representative Tim Moore, Col USAF Reserves, gave remarks thanking Vietnam War veterans for their service to our nation protecting and preserving our freedom.

Regent Joyce Miller presented veterans with a DAR Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of their valor, service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War. The Department of Defense 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration pin was presented to veterans by Chaplain Martha Lawson, 50-year DAR member Joyce Cowley, and former Regent Julia Richardson. Surviving spouses of Vietnam War veterans received the Department of Defense Vietnam War Commemoration Certificate of Honor and pin designed for surviving spouses.

Vietnam War veteran John Lay exhibited Vietnam War pictures and articles from the Hardin County History Museum. Veteran and DAR member Freida Woods and Imogene Pederson (surviving spouse of Don Pederson) added pictures from their personal collection. Margie Martin exhibited an “army star” pattern quilt she had made in honor of the service of her husband Don Martin.
