  • Hats Off to Our Vietnam War Era Veterans

    Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter welcomed home 134 Vietnam War Era veterans with a “Hats Off To Our Vietnam War Era Veterans” luncheon on March 17, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Over 200 people attended the community event to welcome home and thank the Vietnam War Era veterans and their families for their service and sacrifices.

  • DAR chapter celebrates 75 years

    The Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization comprised of women who are able to trace their lineage to patriots of the American Revolutionary War. Although founded in 1890, Hardin County’s own DAR chapter is celebrating 75 years of existence.

  • Daughters of the American Revolution local chapter celebrates 75 years

    The Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the chapter organization. On Jan. 10, 1947, Organizing Regent Miss Margaret Patterson and seventeen charter members met at the Brown Pusey House in Elizabethtown. State Regent Mrs. Hugh L Russell from Ashland installed the officers. A formal reception was held after the organization of the chapter.

  • CAR members visit LaRue County fairgrounds

    Van Meter Fort Society Children of the American Revolution met July 31 at the LaRue County Fairgrounds. Adult leader Beverly Heath explained during a tour of the fairgrounds the LaRue County Fair is the oldest continuously running county fair in Kentucky. This is the 114th year of the fair, with last year being conducted virtually during the pandemic.

  • Revolutionary War patriots memorialized at local park

    A special service involving the Col. John Hardin Chapter Kentucky Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Capt. Jacob Van Meter Chapter Kentucky Society Daughters of the American Revolution took place lakeside to unveil the American Revolution Patriots Memorial, an obelisk featuring the names of the American Revolution Patriots with a connection to Hardin County.

  • Revolutionary War soldier honored at local cemetery

    In 1775, the war for America’s independence from Britain began and among the soldiers fighting for freedom was Cpl. James Crutcher. Crutcher, who settled in Hardin County following the Revolutionary War, was recognized for his patriotism and service at a joint grave-marking service Sunday at Vine Grove Cemetery.

  • Vietnam Veterans Are Honored

    Captain Jacob Van Meter Chapter NSDAR was honored to recognize 50 Vietnam War veterans on Friday, November 17 at the Brown Pusey House in Elizabethtown. Veterans and their guests were invited to participate in the DAR Rituals with music following by Lisa Greene and Brother Randy Mitchell. Kentucky State Representative Tim Moore, Col USAF Reserves, gave remarks thanking Vietnam War veterans for their service to our nation protecting and preserving our freedom.
